Justin Baer, CheckInEasy Founder
Q: First, a little background: how did you become involved in providing mobile app technology for events?
A: Our sister company, Charityhappenings.org, is the master calendar of nonprofit events happening around the country. We have so many great relationships with event planners around the country, and the topic of eliminating stapled Excel spreadsheets and ugly clipboards kept coming up. We set out to create a much more efficient way to run check-in, and built CheckInEasy.
Q: So, what is CheckInEasy?
A: An extremely easy-to-use guest list and event check-in iPad/iPhone app that was recently used by Google at their holiday party to check in 2,600 guests at the New York Public Library. We just launched but have already gotten some exciting traction with users such as Tory Burch, Emory University, Ferrari and Masarati of Cannes, Elle Fashion Week, Nestle Water, AVT Technology, and more.
Think events and conferences are no place for fun and games? EventMobi
™ – the world’s first smartphone-based platform designed for event professionals – challenges that notion by injecting entertainment and healthy competition into events.
The GamifyApp allows event planners to build and customize games to enhance the overall attendee experience and solve the common problems they are typically faced with, such as engaging attendees at educational sessions or compelling attendees to walk the tradeshow floor and interact with sponsors.
The GamifyApp integrates game mechanics into all aspects of the event experience – education, team‐building, and networking – by encouraging attendees to use their smartphone or tablet device to complete quizzes, solve challenges, and perform tasks.

Yesterday, QuickMobile released “The Rise of Mobile Event 2.0,” a new white paper that analyzes the evolution of mobile event applications and the benefits they provide for meeting planners, organizers, marketers and attendees. The concept of Mobile Event 2.0 is associated with smartphone and tablet applications that facilitate greater overall participation, information sharing, branded user-centered design, and collaboration at conferences, trade shows and events. Driven by advancements in mobile technology, consumers and business users now expect more from their apps. Mobile Event 2.0 fully leverages the capabilities of mobile devices to deliver solutions that inspire, engage and connect with audiences before, during and after events.

As meeting planners search for more ways to improve their competitiveness and differentiate their services, more focus is being placed on improving interaction, networking, and sponsorship opportunities at events. In response to these competitive pressures, mobile event technology is rising to the challenge, delivering innovative strategies to help people connect - and the result is creating a monumental change in the way events take place.
One of the latest responses to this call for improved interaction is the idea of “matchmaking,” or finding creative ways to introduce people with common interests and expertise to promote the sharing of ideas and formation of relationships. The larger the conference or tradeshow, the greater the challenge becomes to match individuals from a diverse background with a large number of interests. Even smaller events share many of the same challenges. How many times have you returned home from an event and reviewed the event guide only to find that you really should have met a few people who you simply passed by?

Today, meeting planners have an overwhelming, ever-changing array of technological options and add-ons to choose from when it comes to enhancing the event experience. When it comes to mobile apps, the Overland Park CVB in Kansas now offers meeting planners a “try before you buy” option that enhances the Overland Park destination experience while helping planners gauge whether this kind of technology is a fit for their groups.
“There are so many destination mobile applications out there today,” says Liron BenDor, vice president of marketing. “They’re all wonderful, and they’re really fantastic tools for visitors coming to any destination. What we were noticing is that we get a lot of meeting planners, and a lot of meeting planners are seeing this for the first time - let's give them a taste of what you can do with mobile app technology.”
