* The Sports industry – not just a game.

We are excited to introduce a Sports section in this edition of Midwest Meetings Magazine! From the significant economic impact to social and community ties, sporting events are an important segment in the meetings world.

Learn from the pros what makes this industry tick and how it not only survived, but thrived in the past few years.

From special planning needs, logistics for citywide multi-venue locations, as well as important safety tips to consider. You’ll also hear from the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), who is no stranger to hosting epic sporting events, like the Indy 500 and home to Super Bowl 2012.

Did you know that the state games are a spin-off from the US Olympics Committee? These amazing multi-day events are held around the country and feature a variety of sports, family activities and involve dedicated volunteers from throughout the individual states. Eric Engelbarts II with the West Michigan Sports Commission shares with us how they brought their state games back last year and are gearing up for an even bigger event this summer in Grand Rapids.

And of course with all great events, food and fun are a major component, so we’ll share the best tips and learn what works from the professionals.
