• Escape room teambuilding
In my recent exploration of Chicago, I found my way into the rabbit hole of the elusive ‘escape room experience.’ I had heard of these attractions popping up all over the world, part game, part mystery, part team endeavor.
Groups are placed in a race against time to find and interpret the hidden clues, in order to make their escape. But, are they really all that and a bag of keys? I was excited to find out.
Upon entrance, we were welcomed, signed our liability waivers, given rules and guidelines, and a walkie-talkie, just in case we needed help. Then we were led to our room, which happened to be ‘The Mob,’ and told the beginning of our story. A rival gang has stolen our cash and we need to retrieve our cash stash and get out before we are caught, we had one hour to escape. Between locks, keys, and clues we laughed, problem solved, possibly swore, and laughed some more.
As the time ticked by, we were led to new challenges. Leadership changed as different trials became priority and we all excelled at something which helped our group. Did we succeed in our mission and beat the clock? Unfortunately, we were five minutes over the buzzer. Looking back we could analyze the items that hung us up and learn from the experience. I know the next time I enjoy an escape room experience, I will not flip every piece of furniture over in the first five minutes…yes, that happened. I was looking for keys and clues!
If you have been sitting on the fence about Escape Rooms for your attendees, I personally suggest you give them a try. The room experiences vary to give options for all kinds of groups, from prison breaks to bioweapon infection and everything in between. Help your team escape the norm with an adrenaline inducing experience they will want to share with family and friends.
