Courage is as Courage Does
• ‘20 seconds of courage’
• Be okay hearing ‘no’
I attribute my 'Art of Adventure' lifestyle to having run up against many obstacles in life and either finding creative outcomes or falling on my face and learning a great lesson. We are human, we've all been there, but it comes down to how we allow these moments to shape us.
This concept solidified even more for me after reading the book Level Up Your Life by Steve Kamb. His '20 seconds of courage' action format, though based in a realm he has dubbed Nerd Fitness, continues to fuel me to 'go for it' in all areas of my life.
After years of working in construction finance by day and planning non-profit events by night to make up for my mundane 9-5, I took my ‘20 seconds of courage’ to apply for my dream job, and guess what…I’m doing it right now! Did people think I was out of my mind for trying to jump so far from the box I had previously been in, YES but I didn’t care. As long as I tried for what I wanted and did my best, all they could tell me was ‘no’ and I was okay with that.
So take the risk, pitch that meeting you are passionate about planning, go with a bold new seating arrangement, use a new app to market your event. ‘20 seconds of courage’ could change your life and if it doesn’t - remember that if you aren’t winning, you are learning and learning is always an adventure.
