Following an 18-month restructure, the International Association of Conference Centres (www.iacconline.org) has recently reported its highest single year growth in membership globally, with 58 new members joining the only global professional association representing small to medium-sized venues that focus on meetings, training courses and conferences.

The Montgomery Club (500 W. Superior St.), a private dining venue helmed by Gibsons Restaurant Group, hosted the first Chicago James Beard Foundation Chefs Night Out® Sunday, May 3. Chefs’ Night Out is the party before the annual James Beard Foundation Awards, which took place May 4, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Past winners and present nominees along with culinary industry and city leaders gathered together to enjoy Gibsons Restaurant Group’s iconic Chicago hospitality.
The Nebraska Tourism Commission kicked off its 2015 Nebraska Passport Program today with the release of a video endorsement from Governor Pete Ricketts. In the video Governor Ricketts sited the importance of Tourism for Nebraska’s economy saying, “Many people don’t realize that Tourism is Nebraska’s 3rd largest industry and that it provides over 44,000 jobs in the state.”
James Mahon, who was the long-time public relations director for the International Association of Conference Centres (IACC), passed away peacefully earlier this month, surrounded by his loving family. He had been ill for a short time.
Anyone who genuinely knew James would never forget him or his communications gifts. He was a special blend of wit, intelligence, knowledge and humor, with a constant side helping of attentive parenting of his gifted daughter. James cherished his family, including his devoted wife Mary and their beloved daughter Kathleen, and his IACC and media colleagues whom he included in his extended family group.
Rebecca Kollaras, who was regional director of public relations for Benchmark Hospitality International and an esteemed colleague of the company’s sales, marketing and public relations teams, passed away suddenly on April 19 while on a seaside outing with her family.
A seasoned and exemplary public relations professional for Benchmark’s Personal Luxury collection in Florida, Rebecca was one of the most exceptional human beings anyone could have the pleasure of working alongside or meeting in life. She was pure class: a feisty, courageous and adored leader who loved rocking a red power dress!
Bob Alter, president of Seaview Investors, contributed $10,000 on behalf of the Alter family to the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation’s (AH&LEF’s) 2015 Annual Giving Campaign. Alter is a long-time donor to the Annual Giving Campaign. This marks Alter’s eighth consecutive personal gift at the six-diamond level or higher, and his second at the leadership level.

American Hotel & Lodging Association, National Restaurant Association Join Forces on Pressing Issues Facing Hospitality Industry
For the first time, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) will join forces and bring together 1,000 stakeholders from the lodging and restaurant industries for a joint Washington hospitality Hill day. The partnership, announced Tuesday, April 7, 2015, will focus on raising awareness with lawmakers about the strength of the lodging and restaurant industries and showcase the meaningful impact hospitality has on job creation and our nation’s economy.
