Meeting Professionals International (MPI) announces the confirmed slate of volunteer leaders for its 2016 Board of Directors. Board member and officer selections are effective January 1, 2016, for the term of January 1 through December 31, 2016.
Toys for Tots is returning to The National Conference Center for the sixth year to hold its 2015 Toys for Tots Coordinator Conference. Nearly 500 coordinators from around the nation will attend the conference from September 17-20. They will learn everything from handling donations and coordinating toy drop offs to a basic understanding of how IRS tax rules affect the campaign. The meeting also provides participants the opportunity to learn from each other and share experiences.
With a mission to help meetings industry people in crisis, several prominent meetings industry leaders have launched The Meetings Industry Fund, a new 501(c)(3) foundation.
The Fund will provide financial assistance during times of crisis to individuals who are directly involved in the planning, execution, delivery and support of meetings. For example, if a meeting professional out of work and suddenly faces a medical emergency, The Meetings Industry Fund can be there to help.
Meetings Mean Business (MMB) announced today that Lanyon has become the first software company from the meetings, events and travel industry to join its board of directors. Founded in 2009, MMB brings together leaders from across the industry to demonstrate the substantial value derived from meetings, conferences, conventions, travel, trade shows and exhibitions.

The Meeting Professionals International Ohio Chapter (MPIOH) is holding the 28th Annual Education & Scholarship Auction on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Hilliard, OH (Columbus). The proceeds from the Auction are used to defray costs of MPIOH related educational programs and for educational scholarships. In addition, our selected charity, Camp Kesem, will receive a portion of the proceeds.
We would appreciate your participation in the Auction through the donation of auction items. As a contributor, you will receive exposure to over 1000 meeting planners and suppliers through item lists, promotional materials, and the MPIOH website prior to the Auction, as well as visibility to over 100 attendees during the networking reception and Auction on November 18th. The Nebraska Legislature has appropriated $250,000 to the Nebraska Tourism Commission to administer dollar-for-dollar matching grants in FY2015-16 (July 1, 2015-June 30, 2016) to provide marketing assistance grants to communities, organizations and local tourism promotional groups hosting national or international-caliber events that have the potential to attract a significant percentage of out-of-state visitors and to generate favorable national or international press coverage for Nebraska, increasing exposure through advertising, marketing and promotional efforts.

Last week, Meetings Mean Business (MMB) sent a letter to Representative Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA), urging him to fix the Stay in Place, Cut the Waste Act of 2015 (H.R. 2810). Rep. Fitzpatrick introduced the legislation on June 17 to replace up to 50 percent of all government business travel with videoconferencing as a substitute for face-to-face meetings.
Travel industry veterans Michael A. Leven, chairman and chief executive officer of Georgia Aquarium, and W. Stephen Maritz, chairman and chief executive officer of Maritz Holdings Inc., have been selected as the 2015 inductees into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders, the single highest and most revered honor an individual in the travel industry can receive.
