Travel industry veterans Michael A. Leven, chairman and chief executive officer of Georgia Aquarium, and W. Stephen Maritz, chairman and chief executive officer of Maritz Holdings Inc., have been selected as the 2015 inductees into the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders, the single highest and most revered honor an individual in the travel industry can receive.
The world’s largest collection of Evel Knievel’s authentic performance leathers, jump bikes and memorabilia will be housed in a permanent museum at the Historic Harley-Davidson of Topeka, 2047 S.W. Topeka Blvd.
The Evel Knievel Museum at Historic Harley-Davidson is expected to open in early- to mid-summer 2016. It will be housed on both floors of the planned 16,000-square-foot expansion of Topeka’s Historic Harley-Davidson.
The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the sole national association representing all segments of the 1.8 million-employee lodging industry, welcomed action by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alerting consumers about deceptive online hotel booking sites, which trick consumers into thinking they are booking directly with the hotel. The agency posted two blogs (see links below) about these deceptive practices, warning consumers of this growing problem and offering advice on how to avoid scams.
Members of Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), a Cincinnati-based organization for motorhome owners, will head to Wisconsin’s capital city at the end of July for a four-day event focusing on various aspects of their favorite form of travel. A small city on wheels will take shape as the owners of some 2,000 motorhomes converge on the Alliant Energy Center in Madison July 29 through August 1. During FMCA’s 92nd Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase, which has been dubbed “Escape to Wisconsin,” attendees will participate in various activities designed to enhance the motorhome lifestyle.
The Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Foundation announces its 2015-2016 Global Board of Trustees for July 1, 2015, to December 31, 2016. Stephen Revetria assumes the role of chairman. Revetria became a member of the MPI Foundation Global Board of Trustees in July 2007. He serves as senior vice president of Giants Enterprises, where he is responsible for setting the strategy and vision in developing business opportunities beyond the major league franchise.
The Midwest Society of Association Executives (MSAE) has announced their 2015-2016 Board of Directors who will lead MSAE, an association representing a community of 1,100 members and 300 Midwest associations. Terms of office begin July 1, 2015.
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s RISE (Recognizing Industry Success and Excellence) Awards. The recipients have been selected for exceptional achievements in the meeting and event industry, and will be honored at the annual MPI RISE Awards Presentation and Luncheon on August 3, 2015, during MPI’s World Education Congress (WEC) in San Francisco.
This year’s RISE Awards feature six awards in three categories: individual achievement, community achievement and organizational achievement. Recipients are recognized for innovation, global transferability, impact and influence within the industry, and will join the MPI Community of Honorees, a group composed of past MPI award winners and distinguished leaders.

Members of Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), an international organization for people who own motorhomes, will flock to Wisconsin’s state capital in late July and temporarily form their own capital — one centered on RVing.
The Cincinnati-based group will host its 92nd Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison July 29 through August 1, 2015.
The association will be making a return visit to Madison, having hosted events there in 1984 and 2011 as well.
The U.S. Travel Association has announced four future host cities for its annual IPW trade show, locking in locations through 2024.
