It's easy — and pretty common — for people to assume they have to travel a long distance to have a great vacation.
But that isn't necessarily true, said Kim Schmidt, public and media relations manager for the tourism division of the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
"Sometimes we overlook what's in our own backyard."
The division's website (ndtourism.com) offers many enticing ideas for visitors. One of the most useful may be a set of travel routes (running north to south or east to west), each of which shows points of interest along the way.
