Baseball is in Omaha’s DNA and the month of June is proof. For the next several weeks Omaha will host the NCAA Men’s College World Series, and the Triple Crown SlumpBuster Youth Baseball Tournament.
The College World Series takes place at Omaha’s TD Ameritrade Park, June 16th through June 28th. Opening ceremonies take place Friday night with a team parade through downtown Omaha, an autograph session for fans, and a firework-filled evening at the ballpark. The eight college teams participating this year are California State Fullerton, Florida State, Florida, Louisville, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Texas Christian University (TCU) and Louisiana State University (LSU). The first game is Saturday, June 17 at 2:00 pm. In Omaha since 1950, the College World Series is one of the longest running sporting traditions in the country.
Omaha is no amateur when it comes to sporting events. In November of this year, Omaha will host the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials. In 2018, the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 will be held in Omaha. In 2020, Omaha will host its fourth consecutive U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Volleyball Championship as well as the first and second round of the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Championship.
