• National Swap Ideas Day - September 10, 2018
Conferences, meetings, and events are all forums for idea swapping. Whether we have coffee with a colleague, explore new ideas at a team meeting, or create buzz around a product at a conference, ‘idea swapping’ is what we do! On this day dedicated to idea swapping, lets discuss a few brainstorming concepts to help you bring fresh thoughts to the table.
White board and dry erase markers
Large tablets and markers
Post-it notes in multiple colors
Pads of paper and pencils for everyone
For those working on the same concept:
Write a statement about where you are. Then, write a statement about where you want to be. Ask your team how to fill the gap. Collect all the answers and organize them to develop a plan.
Ask the individuals in your group to write as many ideas as they can in a certain time. Set the timer and let them write. Write ideas on a white board and see how many are repeated. Look into utilizing the ideas with the most repeats.
For a group working on individual concepts:
Each person coming to the table has their own ‘problem’ and are looking for ideas to help. Go around the table one at a time. An individual will state their ‘problem’ and the person to their left will become the ‘writer,’ taking notes on all the ideas the others at the table can provide. Set a certain amount of time for each person’s topic and work as a team to provide starting points for everyone to dig deeper into.
Remember to take pictures of your white boards, tablets, and notes at the end of your session, these images are then able to be referenced and even emailed to colleagues after the meeting. Happy Idea Swapping!
