Events at casinos can be both exhilarating and nerve wracking for meeting professionals and their participants. To eliminate any nervousness, planners can work with casino experts to not only learn the rules of play themselves, but find ways to educate their attendees in a fun and engaging way.
“There is no need to worry about the high-energy gaming being overwhelming for new gamers. MotorCity Casino offers table game tutorials to small, private groups.” Irene Lignos shared, Director of Conference and Catering Sales, “Meeting planners tell us their participants often ask for tutorials on that most intimidating table game of all, Craps. We also offer tutorials on Blackjack and Poker.”
In order to offer attendees the most authentic experience, they present tutorials by offering them at a closed table right on the casino floor. However, no wagering takes place. A Pit Manager greets each group and walks them through the rules of the game, offering tips and suggestions, while the dealer mimics the live-action game.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions in order to get used to how the game flows. A tutorial normally lasts around a half hour and most importantly they’re lots of fun!
How do the tutorials benefit the planner and attendees? Lignos shared additional benefits, “The request for tutorials originated with meeting planners who were searching for creative new teambuilding experiences to enhance multi-day conferences. Some planners have reported back that the tutorials were so much fun they turned out to be a highlight of their group’s visit to the city. People who participate typically say they’re intimidated by table games and are afraid of embarrassing themselves on a live table. However, in a tutorial they’re able to stop the action and ask questions, so in the end they feel much more comfortable playing at a live table.”
For those just looking for fun with zero risk the tutorials allow guests an authentic gaming experience without ever placing a bet.
Holland Tudor, Group Sales Manager at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, has also found numerous ways to engage attendees and help companies and organizations intertwine their goals with fun gaming experiences.
“We offer a few different things, ranging from a simple Blackjack University, where we set up tables in a meeting room for participants to learn the game before hitting the casino floor. Or going beyond and offering a more elaborate experience.”
Tudor shared that some upcoming groups will take more of a teambuilding approach and her staff will create a more elaborate and expanded gaming room in a traditional meeting room. It can begin with a reception and include different areas with a variety of games, such as Blackjack University, slot tournaments, and Cosmic Bingo. People can come in to learn and even compete against one another for prizes the company and her staff have put together, ranging from spa services, rounds of golf, days off, and chips to use on the true gaming floor, the possibilities are endless!
“We have a fun MC who works the room and does a great job engaging people,” raved Tudor. “We like to infuse the focus and purpose of a group’s event into the gaming experience. For example, if it is a new product launch we can customize pull tabs with the company logo and offer specific prizes related to the new products.”
