The state of Illinois has found itself in many news outlets the last few months, all describing the state’s budget impasse and its impact on the people and businesses in the state. There is no arguing that the state is going through a process resulting in many changes in service and opportunities. With this in mind, Midwest Meetings reached out to CVBs in the state of Illinois to find out what services, options, and opportunities meeting and event planners have when planning in Illinois. The result was an overwhelming response that Illinois is open for meetings and events with the services and experiences to ensure a successful event.
planners to make their jobs easier," shared Maureen Riedy, President, Visit Lake County. "We are a great
resource to planners and happy to set up site visits or provide videos or a Skype tour of venues.”
Perhaps the best way to discover the services and venues available is to ask for a site visit. “Our resources and what we are doing service-wise has not changed,” said Lisa Landers, CMP, Director of Sales for the DuPage CVB. “We continue to be of service offering sourcing to all of our properties to help the planner find the best facilities. Site inspections are top of our list, as we want to showcase all of DuPage. We accompany planners and answer questions to ensure they have a true feel of the properties.”
One of the most common components of working with a CVB are the complimentary services they provide.
Katrina Wilkerson, Director of Sales & Media, Decatur Area CVB described the CVB's role as “a
complimentary concierge for convention and tournament planners.”
Services range from Springfield, IL CVB's help with attendance building and social media campaigns to hotel block agreement services with the aid of the Decatur Area CVB. Greater St. Charles CVB offers customized itineraries just for your group, and you will receive pricing and quote assistance from the Blackhawk Waterways CVB. Work with Visit Oak Park and take advantage of their help planning off property spouse, leisure, and recreation activities and you can contact Chicago Southland CVB for convention services and promotions. Let the Naperville CVB assist with networking events and you can even receive a Mayoral welcome arranged by Effingham CVB. CVBs across Illinois are still providing the services needed and exceeding the expectations of planners.
Looking for more? Connect with Illinois CVBs to find that unique venue or activity with the perfect fit for your group. According to Lori Tuttle, PR/Marketing Manager, Quincy Area CVB, “Groups fall in love with private home tours in Quincy!” You can also find local events and farm fresh food at Eckert’s in Belleville or a unique meeting space at 25N Coworking in Geneva. There are new spaces and places across Illinois waiting to be discovered with the help of the local CVB.
Illinois CVBs understand the needs of meeting event planners and what the CVB’s role can be. “Meet Chicago Northwest recognizes that our services bring an added value assisting our customers every step of the way with their meeting, convention, group tour, or sporting event necessity,” said Dave Parulo, President of Meet Chicago Northwest. Lynn Hunt, Vice President, Sales for Quad Cities CVB shared “We literally become the planners go-to person for any needs they may have in our destination. We’re there from start to finish and become a member of their team.”
Cort Carlson, Executive Director, Aurora Area CVB noted, “In this age of digital communication and shrinking budgets, face-to-face meetings and conference experiences are more important than ever.” Illinois is ready to help make your next meeting or event a success.
