Coffee is a beloved morning beverage for many, though for some it isn't just a morning beverage.
Coffee drinkers today have so many options, from hot to iced, latte to espresso, and don’t forget the flavored syrups (dare I mention Pumpkin Spice) and varieties of creams you can add, but let’s not forget that it all began with the original ‘cup of Joe.’
Whether at home or traveling, a great coffee always gets me perked up for the day.
Coffee has become a growing art form and most coffeehouses create a community atmosphere all their own.
Let’s look at a few great coffeehouses and roasters in the Midwest that could be brewing up just what you need at your next meeting or event.
Besides selling high-quality and Fair Trade coffee beans to many restaurants near Milwaukee, they also have a cafe, located in Milwaukee’s historic Third Ward, with a vast selection of options to choose from. Kickapoo’s focus on sustainability has led them to now be 100% solar powered in their roasting processes, making it the first commercial coffee roaster in the US with this distinction. For an added perk to your coffee loving attendees, consider participating in one of Kickapoo’s ‘Public Cuppings.’ Once a month the tasting room is opened to the public for tours of the roasters and samples of coffee from around the world.
Shortwave Coffee, Columbia, MO
Shortwave Coffee is a small-batch roasting company and local coffee shop with a mission to roast and serve the best coffees in mid Missouri. Not only does the cafe have a wide selection to choose from, they also provide unique coffee services. Shortwave caters events by providing a full-service espresso bar for drinks, such as lattes. Do you want to perk up a tradeshow, why not allow Shortwave to provide a Pop-Up cafe with demonstrations, this can be set up in a ‘cash-bar’ style to eliminate cost to your event. Or, for a great teambuilding experience, ask about their coffee education and brewing/barista training, complete with latte art!
The Mill Coffee & Tea, Lincoln, NE
This small-batch, craft roaster has been in business since 1975. Providing a wide array of single origin, blends, and flavored coffees The Mill also provides a plethora of teas, as well as cocoa mixes: The Mill’s homemade apple cider spice mix, Mexican chocolate mix, and white heat mocha powder. Stop in for a cup or ‘Fuel’ your next meeting with coffee prepared just for you by ordering from The Mill directly.
Black Dog Coffeehouse, Lenexa, KS
More than a coffeehouse, Black Dog offers a full lunch and breakfast menu with one-of-a-kind toast provided by its neighbor bakery, Ibis Bread Company. This community location hosts game nights and provides local artists a place to exhibit. Black Dog also houses a conference room for meetings and private events that can be utilized from 2pm-8:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Not only does coffee bring people together, but enjoying an area's neighborhood coffee shops can tell you a lot about the culture of that location. Enjoy a cup alone or with colleagues, whichever you choose a local coffee shop is a great choice when exploring the city of your next meeting or event.
