Karen Hurley is the newly appointed director of sales for the Homewood Suites by Hilton @ the Waterfront (13th & Webb). She is a senior sales executive with nearly 20 years of diverse hotel sales and marketing experience in the Wichita community.
In her new position, Hurley is tasked with leading the hotel sales team in attracting new business segments while enhancing existing client relations and guest satisfaction. Prior to joining the company, she was director of sales at the Ambassador Hotel Wichita, affiliated with the Marriott Autograph Collection. She began her hospitality career with Cambridge Suites, a property operated by the Candlewood Hotel Company owned by hospitality innovator Jack DeBoer, who originally launched the Residence Inn extended stay concept in Wichita in 1975, eventually selling the brand to Marriott International. Hurley has particular affinity for selling the extended stay concept. “There is more connection to guests,” says Hurley. “I love hearing their stories, becoming their friend.” She is also attracted to the hotel’s distinct culture. “This hotel’s greatest attribute is the management/ownership (Salina-based Lighthouse Properties),” says Hurley. We have employees who have worked here since it opened. I believe that if you take care of the employees, the employees will take care of the guests.”
