Whatever the occasion, there is always a beer to match according to Angela Yahne, Taproom Manager at Wooden Legs Brewing Company in Brookings, SD. With the increasing craft beer scene it may be hard to choose the right brew for you or your event. Summer is the season for Kolsch, Cream Ale, Pale Ale, Witbier, Weizen, and so much more, but when in doubt, stop by your local brewery and ask about summer beer selections or pairings.
With all this knowledge she took time to explain some of her summer favorites brewed at Wooden Legs, “The Farmhouse Ale, our Saison, is citrusy, spicy, and a somewhat peppery brew that will scrub your pallet and complement chicken without overpowering it… for those who like darker brews, the Blacks Hills Schwarzbier’s roasty, chocolate flavors will match perfectly with grilled red meats.”
At Wooden Legs, house taps, guest taps, and pub rootbeer can be enjoyed by the pint, half pint, or taken away in 64 oz. ‘Growlers.’ Pub grub is quick and easy here with the menu consisting of a variety of specialty pizzas on thin cracker-like crust, thick fresh sliced deli sandwiches on locally baked bread, and don’t forget the warm, soft pub pretzels with a side of special house made cheese sauce. But really, “the sky’s the limit,” Angela said. “We allow outside food in.” Wooden Legs has collaborated with local chefs to host beer pairing dinners on occasion, which have been highly attended.
If you are in Brookings, SD stop by Wooden Legs Brewing Company and speak with Angela directly. “Nothing excites me more than great beer, good conversation, and summer finally here!” Cheers!
