The Stella Hotel & Ballroom opened its doors on April 1, 2019, in downtown Kenosha, WI. The 100-year-old building has transformed several times over the years. Originally the Pettit Malting Company, established in 1857, and later The Kenosha Elks Club in 1919, after the malting company had burned down in 1914. The Elks Club was exquisite in its day featuring a hotel, swimming pool, and multiple dining options. In 1990 the club was sold and became the Heritage House Inn, a banquet facility, which was closed in the mid-2000s. Now, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Stella Hotel & Ballroom is a full-service boutique hotel with 80 guestrooms, just blocks from Lake Michigan and the Kenosha Harbor.
“It was a beautiful building that was left in major disrepair,” explained Steve Morgan, Gorman USA. “We bought the building, as we are in the business of revitalizing communities.” The Georgian Revival style building has been restored to its former granduer. The two-story ballroom can accommodate up to 300 guests while the four additional meeting rooms are able to host groups of 16-40 people. The historic, unique meeting areas make for memorable events and the proximity to downtown shopping and dining allow guests to truly enjoy the area.
The 1844 Table & Mash is the hotel’s main restaurant which pays homage to the old Wisconsin supper clubs and offers diverse beverage and dining options. The Stella also features a seasonal rooftop bar, The Crow’s Nest, so guests can enjoy warm Wisconsin nights - maybe while enjoying a local craft brew, bringing the venue full circle from its beginnings as a malt house.
