Wine racks at The Oread

TEN restaurant, inside the Eldridge Hotel, and Bird Dog Bar/Five 21, inside The Oread, have earned the 2017 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, which gives wine lovers reason to feel confident in their wine choices at these two elegant locales.

The two restaurants are the only Wine Spectator winners in Lawrence. It’s the fifth win for The Oread. TEN, inside the historic Eldridge Hotel, earned the award from 2007 through 2015.

Catch Des Moines is proud to announce that Des Moines has been named a finalist for Midwest Living’s Greatest Midwest Town 2017, Food Edition. Des Moines was selected by editors of the magazine as one of the twelve finalists because of the wide-range of food festivals and events that are offered as well as the addition of food trucks, the new Hy-Vee grocerant downtown, and long-list of outstanding restaurants.

Accolades for Equal Opportunity Employment

Cottonwood Inc. has awarded its annual JobLink Outstanding Community Employer Award to The Oread and The Eldridge Hotels.

For the last 10 years, The Olivia Collection, which is the hotels’ holding company, has employed Cottonwood Inc.’s clients. Three individuals currently serve various roles at the hotels.

“These three staff members make sure the little details of cleanliness and comfort are tended to. It’s great to have our staff visit and interact with them. I just wanted to make their life more meaningful. It’s just something I’m very passionate about,” said Nancy Longhurst, General Manager of The Oread and Eldridge.

There are 144 local businesses and organizations that partner with Cottonwood to provide employment to individuals with disabilities. Cottonwood Inc. is the city’s largest organization serving individuals with disabilities. The hotel properties were honored with the award in late September.

“I think the most important qualities JobLink looks for its host partners are great communication, people who will really provide natural support – a place where our job seeker will be surrounded by people who are wanting them to be successful,” said Keri Rodriquez, Business account Manager of Cottonwood’s JobLink.

Olivia Collection Hotels Awarded Top Spots at Best of Lawrence

LAWRENCE, KS — The Eldridge and The Oread hotels took home first place and second place at Best of Lawrence 2016 for Best Hotel. This is the fourth year in a row that the hotels have placed first and second.

Additionally, this is the eighth time The Eldridge has won Best Hotel! The Eldridge features TEN restaurant and Jayhawker Bar and is located at the intersection of 7th and Massachusetts streets. It features 56 suites and friendly valet and concierge services, along with free wi-fi, in the main building and at the extended-stay property, Eldridge Extended.

The Oread Hotel received second place. It features Bird Dog Bar, The Nest on Ninth, Slice of History and Lemon Bliss Tanning. The Oread offers 99 rooms, breath-taking views from two terraces, and fully equipped meeting and social spaces. It’s located on the north gate of the University of Kansas campus.

The Eldridge staff are doubly proud of this year’s awards. The Jayhawker Bar, a classic Downtown bar that many KU students consider a right of passage, won Best Place to Get a Cocktail or Mixed Drink against heavy competition. The Jayhawker’s Martini list offers 36 different options. The Jayhawker Juice martini, which features pineapple infused vodka, is a local favorite. Martinis are half-price every Thursday at The Jayhawker, and its Happy Hour goes from 4-6:30pm Mon-Fri.
