Jefferson City is a recipient of Insurify's Greenest Cities Award. Award winners were determined by a nationwide analysis of household vehicular carbon footprints, based on data submitted to the Insurify website. The analysis was based on over 1.5 million vehicles, and factored in fuel efficiency, engine type, annual mileage, commuting patterns, and count of cars per household. It identified the communities in each state with the lowest average environmental impact score. "Statistics show that cars represent one of the single greatest sources of polluting emissions in the United States," said Snejina Zacharia, CEO of Insurify. "These awards recognize the cities in each state that have the lowest average household impact on the environment, based on vehicle choice and driving habits." |
"The City of Jefferson is proud to receive this recognition as a Greenest City, and it shows the importance of community efforts to increase walkable neighborhoods with sidewalks, and the city's extensive and very favorable Parks Greenway Trail system, along with bike lanes and revitalization of the city's Environmental Quality Commission, which continues to work with City Departments and citizens to continue to sustain our resources, while improving the quality and opportunities in our city," says Mayor Carrie Tergin.
