JEFFERSON CITY, MO, June 10, 2016 - Runners, swimmers and bikers alike will make their way to the capital city this weekend for the third annual Color Vibe 5k on Saturday, June 11 and the first annual Jefferson City Triathlon "The Great Escape" on Sunday, June 12. "We have been eagerly anticipating this weekend for a long time now," said Chris Wilson, Sports/Film Sales Manager for the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The Color Vibe is always such an entertaining and family oriented event, and the Triathlon will provide participants a multi-layered Jefferson City outdoor adventure and we are looking forward to its growth." |
"Jefferson City is a beautiful city and Color Vibe loves coming to host our event downtown," said Michael Keuler, Color Vibe Event Coordinator. "Along with our charity partner, the WeCan! Coalition, we are excited to host our third annual Color Vibe 5k Fun Run and Walk here."
The Jefferson City Triathlon appropriately titled, "The Great Escape", is a brand new event for Jefferson City, deriving its name from the biking and running routes close proximity to the new and old prisons. The Triathlon will take place on Sunday with a 7:00 am start time at the newly renovated Ellis Porter Pool located in Riverside Park. The event will include an on-site 400 meter swim, an off-site 12 mile bike ride, and an off-site 3.1 mile run as well as a duathlon.
"We are excited to have around 100 registrants from both in and outside the area signed up for the inaugural Jefferson City Triathlon," said race director, Don Eisinger. "We have had tremendous community support as far as time and donations, and we hope everyone has a good time."
The Triathlon is hosted by the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation, the Jefferson City Area YMCA and the Jefferson City Outdoors group along with several other sponsors. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation and Jefferson City Area YMCA swimming scholarship programs.
