The Smoky Valley Historical Association (SVHA) is proud to announce the reopening of the Coronado Heights Castle (built 1936) on Labor Day weekend! A major renovation project on Coronado Heights started in March of this year and will soon be completed. The observation deck floor of the castle was replaced along with the wooden support timbers within the castle. Entrances to the castle and the restroom buildings were made handicapped accessible. Also the castle great hall floor was smoothed out and a sealant applied. Funding was provided by The Kansas Heritage Trust Fund and donations from the many supporters of both Coronado Heights and the SVHA. We thank the SVHA for applying for the grants and raising funds to make this important project come to life. Here is to another 80 years of picnics, kite-flying and star gazing at the castle! |
