But, you’re a planner. And you often travel for work. Don’t let an unknown city, or perhaps the fear of getting lost in it, keep you from your run.
We’ve researched some running apps and here are three that are great for running in an unfamiliar city.
With MapMyRun you can choose from over 70 million routes, which means you’re sure to find a route in whichever city you happen to be in. You can see routes that have been mapped by other runners in the area or you can search routes based on distance, trail surface, and other key words.
Download MapMyRun for free from the App Store, Google Play, or Windows Phone.
Runkeeper
Runkeeper is another app that allows you to search for pre-planned routes in your area. You can search for routes based on a variety of activity types such as running, walking, cycling, or hiking. Runkeeper also connects with a number of apps for sleep and nutrition tracking and even games.
Runkeeper is free and available for Android and iOS.
Strava
Strava allows you to track your activities using the mobile app, available for free on Google Play and the App Store, or with one of over 50 compatible GPS devices, such as a Garmin. In addition to helping you discover the best routes to run when you’re traveling, you can compare your effort against other athletes who’ve run the same route.
And you can always ask the concierge at your hotel, or any locals in the area, for their advice on running routes nearby. Many hotels are even adding apps with running routes that start and end at the hotel to their list of services.
