Chicago hotel offers numerous ways your group can help the local community
THIS past December, Hotel EMC2, located in Chicago, IL, was awarded with the 2018 Community Service Award from the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association at the organization’s Stars of the Industry Luncheon. This award serves as a result of the property’s conscious effort in 2018 to give back to its community through a variety of philanthropic events held both internally and publicly, as well as participating in external events around the city.
In January, the property held a cold weather items drive for the Care for Real Organization in Edgewater, whose mission is to provide clothing, food, and counseling services to those in need.
Throughout the month of February, both employees and guests were invited to purchase chocolate roses for $1 in support of the American Heart Association.
For International Women’s Day on March 8th, the hotel hosted an internal professional attire drive for Dress for Success, an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing the tools and confidence necessary to help women thrive in work and life. In celebration of Pi Day and Albert Einstein’s Birthday on March 14th, Hotel EMC2 employees and members of the public were invited to purchase pies to be thrown at the hotel’s management team with all proceeds from the event benefitting Project SYNCERE, an educational, Chicago-based non-profit that combines art and science to create transformational experiences for youth within underserved Chicago communities.
In conjunction with National Dog Day on August 27th, the hotel organized a dog-toy making event using donated cotton t-shirts.
With September being “Back to School” month, both the hotel and its contemporary restaurant, the Albert, invited guests and employees to participate in an onsite book drive for Open Books, a Chicago-based non-profit that helps provide literacy experience and access to books for local communities.
During the holiday season, the Albert worked with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital to host one of their patient’s and her family for a complimentary dining experience in honor of Giving Tuesday and Hotel EMC2 held a toy drive for the Domestic Violence Division of the Chicago Police Department.
Throughout the year, the hotel also participated in external community events including the Lincoln Park Zoo clean-up for Earth Day, the Lynn Sage Research Foundation 5K and “In Good Taste,” March for Science, and the Children’s Miracle Network Torch Relay.
In addition to monthly community events, Hotel EMC2 gives back on an annual basis to the Chicago STEM community through an ongoing partnership with Project Syncere. The boutique Streeterville property, which is said to be at the “intersection of art and science,” has committed to contributing a minimum of $90,000 annually to this program. As a result of this donation, Project SYNCERE will launch the career exploration of twenty high school students through hands on, real-life engineering experiences at its E-CADEMY program. The hotel’s contribution to Project SYNCERE is made possible by guests who make a room reservation directly with the hotel or online via Marriott.
