By Chelsea Houston from Woodlands Monocle Earlier this year The Woodlands Township motioned to end the funding for the 35-foot water taxis due to sinking profits. However, the CVB publicly asked for investments for operating and maintaining the cruisers from private contractors and service providers however, it didn’t seem to spark much interest. Utilized mainly by tourists, the six cruisers have become an icon for The Woodlands and locals just can’t bear to see them go but we haven’t seen them rush to shell out $5 a ride to improve the cruisers profits (…yet). |
The CVB has the option to sell one to six of the cruisers. Completely refurbished in July 2011, each of the six cruisers is equipped with two Ray Electric outboard motors powered by 12-volt batteries with diesel generator, running lights, enclosed passenger area and rooftop AC units. Information on the cruisers, including the existing condition of generators, batteries, charging systems and electric motors, is available in the public documents section link at www.VisitTheWoodlands.com.
