Madison, Wis., enjoys an unusual combination of factors that have made it a hot spot for food lovers. With a population of around 240,000, Madison is the capital of Wisconsin and much of its public life centers around the Capitol building downtown. As the main campus of the University of Wisconsin, it's the capital of Badgerland, too, with over 43,000 students (along with university staff, alumni and rapid sports fans) enjoying life situated between the city's two lakes, Monona and Mendota.
