Aurelio's Pizza is proud to partner with Shedd Aquarium for their upcoming Great Lakes Action Day (GLAD) on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The Aurelio's team will hit the 12th Street Beach south of the concession stand to pick up trash, recyclables and will record what items they find. "Aurelio's Pizza is committed to doing everything we can to ensure that the beaches, as well as the water we drink are clean so we can enjoy and preserve the Great Lakes for future generations," said Aurelio's President Joe Aurelio. "Last year, we had fifteen volunteers come out to the 12th Street Beach and we picked up over thirty pounds of garbage." Since 2007, Aurelio's Pizza has been donating pizzas to feed Shedd Aquarium volunteers participating in Great Lakes Action Days. The Great Lakes region is home to more than 3,500 plant and animal species-and 40 million people. The Great Lakes ecosystem is made up of lakes, rivers, wetlands, dunes, prairies and forests. These events are held year-round at natural areas along the local Lake Michigan shore and throughout the Chicago metro area. In 2016, more than 2,100 GLAD volunteers contributed over 5,800 hours of service. These volunteers picked up a total of 4,223.52 pounds of trash and recyclables off the shores of Lake Michigan and various forests preserves surrounding the Chicagoland area. |
Volunteers are invited to sign up by Monday, August 21 by either emailing greatlakesactiondays@sheddaquarium.org or by calling 312-692-3330. Aurelio's Pizza is providing pizza for all volunteers.

About Aurelio's Pizza
Aurelio's Pizza was awarded, 2016 Chicago Tribune's "Top 25 Pizzas" for their thin crust cheese and sausage pizza.
Aurelio's is Chicagoland's first and the nation's fifth established pizza chain. With a history as rich and entrenched in the community as the pizza it's famous for, the very first Aurelio's restaurant opened on Ridge Road in Homewood, IL as the pride and joy of Joseph A. Aurelio, Jr. who decided to give it a go as a restaurateur at the age of 26. With its legendary "old oven" dating back to 1959 in its Homewood location, Aurelio's was a pioneer in the concept of the Family Pizzeria in the United States and helped to launch pizza into the American lexicon. Since that time, Aurelio's has become one of Chicagoland's claims to fame. And, transplanted Chicagoans all over the map have helped to bring their favorite pizzeria franchise to 42 locations across six states, growing a strong fan base for the taste of Aurelio's.
