• The Kindness Rocks Project • Hidden encouragement Have you seen the decorated rocks floating around social media? Maybe you have been lucky enough to find one yourself. The Kindness Rocks Project is meant to inspire others through randomly placed rocks in their path. What started in Cape Cod as five little rocks decorated with Sharpie marker messages has grown to an outpouring of kindness in 50 states and seven nations. Kindness rocks come in all varieties. Thoughtfully written messages, the fresh artwork of a 1st grader, and elaborate designs that share their message only by design are all created for the sole purpose of spreading joy to a total stranger. Many communities across the Midwest have begun finding Kindness Rocks. Lindsborg CVB, in Kansas, recently invited visitors to “hike our trails, play in our parks, or explore Coronado Heights. You never know…while you are here you might just find the rock that inspires you to be brave, to tackle that insurmountable big change, or simply reminds you to laugh. Find a rock or leave one. We want to include you in the fun…” |
The social media following alone will bring you joy. I recently perused my hometown’s Facebook® page, Oakes Rocks. I found smiles, young and old, and rocks, big and small. There were images of ‘how-to’s’ and even book suggestions for rock painting. One lucky family found an amazing Dr. Seuss rock bagged with a small Dr. Seuss book, how over-the-top and creative. Consider a fun teambuilder of rock art at your next event. It is a fun group activity, could be used as an event ‘trade’ during networking, and could even be left in the community you are in to uplift others. Make sure to contact the local CVB or Chamber to make sure you are able to leave these items in their town before doing so. If leaving the rocks are not an option, your guests will walk away with an easily packed item they can choose to leave somewhere in the future. Make your event rock a little bit more with The Kindness Rocks Project. |
