Prairies, rivers, and rambling roads cross the state in all directions. Located near Pierre, the Oahe Dam offers a Visitor Center with excellent views of Lake Oahe and the Missouri River. The center provides information about the history of the area, including exploration, early navigation, settlement, and the natural history. There are also programs highlighting the construction of the dam, the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and the fish of South Dakota. While there, enjoy a Dam and Powerplant tour. In the month of June, Oahu Days Music and Arts Festival is held, full of activities for all ages.
Step back in time at the Mellette House, in Watertown, the home of South Dakota’s first governor, Arthur Calvin Mellette. Groups are able to tour the Italianate-style home and view the magnificent circular staircase which ascends from the ground floor through the second story and into a small tower room located on the third floor. Take your group around town in style with the historic trolley available for sight-seeing tours and mass transit. “We offer a lot of unexpected extras such as visiting art galleries, the zoo, golf or historical, shopping or tasting tours by trolley or walking tours for attendees, spouses, and families, that will make your event a huge success, Watertown has successfully hosted regional and national conventions, and international corporate groups, many returning year after year,” expressed Julie Knutson, Executive Director, Watertown CVB.
