Midwest Meetings: What was your first experience with the meetings/events industry?
Kristen Kimbrel: During college, I was a student member of PCMA and would attend Convening Leaders. Networking with those individuals that were already seasoned veterans was invaluable. Also during college, I interned at my current organization in our exhibits department. It was so eye-opening and made me realize how much I wanted to be in this industry!
MM: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career?
KK: Probably when the economy crashed and our association had to re-look at the way we were doing things, we had to look harder at our budgets and be more strategic in how we were planning meetings. We pushed through, but it was challenging!
MM: If you had a month-long vacation, where would you go and what would you do?
KK: Asheville, NC. I would love to spend a month exploring the city and people. And especially lots of outdoor activities such as hiking on the Blue Ridge Parkway or volunteering at the YMCA conference center I used to work at.
