by Dave Hallenbeck Golf can be a meeting planner’s secret weapon regardless of the level of experience within a group. While a classic golf tournament will never go out of style, savvy planners know that there are many ways to add excitement to this timeless game, take a break from the boardroom, and provide an opportunity to team build and strengthen work relationships. Here are just a few ways to tee off at your next meeting: |
Putting Challenge – Contrary to what many people think, getting on the golf course doesn’t have to take up the whole day. A 9-hole putting challenge is great for groups who may not have a ton of golf experience and can be customized for time. Scrambles – For planners looking to golf a half or full day with a teambuilding component, a scramble is the way to go. With a scramble, groups of four tee off and the best ball of the group is played. 18th Hole / Hole-In-One Challenge – Golf doesn’t need to be a stand-alone event and can be easily incorporated into a reception. Favorite challenges include ‘closest to the pin’ and ‘hole-in-one’ for friendly competition. Add a teambuilding element with unique golf “clubs” such as pool noodles, pool cues, and more. For opportunities similar to those listed above, contact your local golf resort or visit the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The Resort boasts a 12,000 square foot putting green, perfect for a group putt challenge, as well as two links style courses – The Highlands and The Brute. The putting green is also conveniently located near the golf pavilion and is perfect for a scenic welcome reception. |
