Mother’s Day is this weekend on Sunday, May 13th, so we thought it would be appropriate to pay tribute to the ultimate event planner - Mom. They may not realize it but Moms are essentially event planners. It most likely begins before their children are even born. Many moms-to-be put together birth plans and other detailed lists of things they need to purchase, decorate, arrange, etc., before their “main event” arrives. A majority of moms work outside the home. Once baby arrives, not only are they juggling their work schedule, meetings, events, and more, they are also now juggling baby’s schedule of check-ups, mommy and me classes, tummy time… the list goes on and on. |
Moms spend a lot of time working with outside vendors as well. There’s finding their baby’s doctor for the aforementioned check-ups, searching for qualified daycare providers, photographers to capture all of baby’s milestones, and also researching with qualified colleagues to determine the best “F&B” options for baby. That first year of their baby’s life all leads up to the first birthday party. This may be one of the most challenging events for a mom to plan. There’s a lot of pressure for that first birthday party to be perfect. Here again, we find moms working with outside vendors for F&B, decorations, entertainment, and photography. There’s also scheduling considerations and of course, the invitations. As most event planners are, mom is social media savvy, sharing the event with everyone and “advertising” for weeks in advance… waiting for RSVPs. |
Then you factor in all the other events this planner faces - organizing PTA events or youth group activities through church, helping run youth sports tournaments and lining up volunteers to work concessions, planning down to the minute how to get one kid to cheerleading and the other to football practice (and somehow get them fed too… and when will they finish their homework?) - moms truly are the ultimate event planner.
